ABS Permits

In 2015 as part of a project on national implementation of the Nagoya Protocol in the Bahamas with the Bahamas Environment, Science and Technology Commission (BEST, but now DEPP), Paul Oldham wrote a paper outlining a national system for compliance and monitoring focusing on an online research permit system. In 2016 with support from the ABS Initiative the paper was further developed with inputs from Olivier Rukundo and Hartmut Meyer.

The concept paper and related schematics for a model online research permit system are available from a separate ABS research permits website and will be updated as the project develops.

In 2021 in partnership with Amband in Kenya we developed the online research permit system for The Government of The Bahamas as part of a UNEP/GEF project supporting implementation of the Nagoya Protocol.

Under the Bioinnovation Africa project led by GIZ we are working with Geomedia and partners to support the development of national permit systems and monitoring systems in four African countries. More information on the project is available from the ABS Biotrade site.
